Design study · Hampstead Garden Suburb

A handmade in-frame kitchen, softened with oak.

Set within a detached home in Hampstead Garden Suburb, this kitchen brings a light, timeless feel to the heart of the house. Painted in-frame cabinetry gives the room its classic character, while a generous oak island adds warmth and a natural focal point.

The island brings preparation and seating together, with open shelving adding a more relaxed touch. Pale work surfaces, brass-toned handles and dark-framed glazing complete a scheme that feels bright, considered and inviting.

The design centres on creating a kitchen that feels bright and composed, with enough warmth and texture to sit comfortably within the home. A generous island anchors the room and creates a natural place to prepare, serve and gather.

The palette needed to balance the painted cabinetry with the oak island without losing the room’s light feel. The island introduces warmth and contrast, while the long cabinetry run keeps the composition calm. Brass-toned details and dark window frames add definition.
